The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu was inaugurated on 6th August 2016, and welcomed the first batch of students into the campus in Paloura, Jammu. In the initial phases, the establishment of IIT Jammu was done under the mentorship of IIT Delhi. In 2018, IIT Jammu shifted the primary operations to the Main Campus in Jagti, Nagrota. The State Government, Jammu and Kashmir has provided land for the establishment of a permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Technology in Jammu, which consists of 400 acres. Currently the Phase 1 A of the main campus, spread across 25 acres, is operational. Phase 1 B and 1 C are undergoing construction.

Detailed Eligibility:
Educational Qualification:
- Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent qualification in appropriate field with a minimum of 60% (55% for Reserved Categories) marks in the qualifying degree from a recognized University/Institute. OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering with a minimum of 60% marks (55% for Reserved Categories) in the qualifying degree from a recognized University/ Institute with two years relevant experience.
- Desirable : Work experience in NABL certified labs/field experience on soil and rocks. Knowledge of Indian and ASTM standards on soil and rock testing. Experience in handling fully automated and high-end soil/rock testing equipment.
Age Limit:
- Gen – 30 years
- OBC – 33 years
- SC/ST – 35 years

- Shortlisted candidates shall be called for Trade Test/Interaction evaluation. Mere qualifications may not ensure shortlisting and Institute may apply higher than minimum cut off criteria to ensure reasonable number of candidates.
